Darkness
We live in the dark
The light shines for the chosen
The rest of us left frozen
Not in the snow or heat
but with empty minds and severed feet
No choices no hope
Dreams for those who are foolish
Who believe in a life before Judas
They speak of smiles and laughter
All we have is war and disaster
In the days after this
Imagine myself a writer
Putting words on paper
But ashes in place of the skyscrapers
Homes of drifting crates
A tsunami of heartbreak
Lives buried beneath the sand
People in line like soldiers
Handouts of food then a nod of thanks
Dreams for those who are foolish
Who still believe in a life before Judas
~~ Alexia
Dancing Shadows
Wary of the dark
shadows dancing in the night
Hide in the day
sunlight reveals our wounds
Beggars deceived to believe
as blood drips a trail
from our hearts to our feet
Search for a stalwart in my stead
But ghosts dig the graves
of those desperate in need
voices silenced
memories betrayed
Leaders inspire with whispers
command from a stage of quicksand
Beholden to those with the noose
a leash tightened as lambs led to slaughter
We will dance to your refrain
never plead for water
We lift your sword
heft the
a distraction from the future
Knowledge a burden to bear
a constant reminder
the twist of an arm
orders
~~ Alexia
Freedom
The leaves of change
Beckon as I sleep
I dance with shadows
sing with memories
remembering a time
When being me
Was a choice
Not a plea
Whisper in my ear
Tell me secrets
I should not hear
If not now, when
Freedom is not a bell
Nor a ring or key to a cell
But a step or two
Toward an abyss
Surrounded by solitude
Yesterday it was forever
Now I wonder
Is it mine to have?
Or forever seek?
~~ Alexia
The Storm
Drip drop
To the beat of a clock
The rain pours outside.
I think to run
but fear they will catch
If I start to hide
Then they will seek
Drip drop
To the beat of a clock
Questions I keep
Answers buried deep
In the dark
I ache to see;
In the light
I bury beneath
Tell me now
Before I go
Is the storm ahead
Or does it follow?
To the beat of the clock
The rain blinds me
Drip drop
The world as I need it to be?
~~ Alexia
